Some morons, er, misguided persons, are suggesting this right-wing nomination should be blamed on Ralph Nader. After all, the reasoning goes, if Nader had not run in 2000, W. would not be our president now.
But I think it's pretty obvious that one person deserves the real blame, and I know who that person it. Click to see the rest, and I'll share this secrete with you.
It's Mario Cuomo's fault. (I posted some of these thoughts on another diary, but I wanted my own diary to flesh it out.)
Remember, W. could not have been elected if he had not won the Republican primary. The Republican primary voters chose W. because he was the front-runner and too many REpublicans voters can't think for themselves. W. first became the front-runner early, mainly because many of these brilliant Republican voters confused him with the former President Bush (the one who WON a war against Iraq).
Now, if Cuomo had run for president in 1988, like I explicitly told my drinking buddies I wanted Cuomo to, the first president Bush never would have gotten elected president and his frat-boy son never would have gotten dog-cather.
Damn you, Cuomo!! Why didn't you ask my advice and then listen to me?!
Cuomo would ahve also prevented a President Clinton from alienating progressives and driving many of them into the arms of Nader.
Of course, we could also blame George Washington for leading a war against Brittain. If it weren't for him, Tony Blair would be picking the next Supreme Court justice, and I think Blair is pro-choice.
I suggest we change the name of our capitol to Freedom, DC. Thank God, we already changed the name of that airport!
But frankly, George Washington was never that liberal, so we couldn't really expect much better of him. But Mario Cuomo, we trusted you. Why, Mario, why did you betray us when you knew your decision would pave the way for Bush Sr. to get elected and then lay the groundwork for his right-wing son later picking a Supreme Court Justice? What were you thinking?
